The railway line curves round over St Mary’s Rd under Granville Rd bridge before arriving at Cowes Station, Also visible Denmark Rd school, MV Balmoral docked at Fountain Quay and Victoria Pier.
Taken after the Gloster Hotel was replaced by flats and before the building of the Pavillion on the RYS grounds.
This green space, protected from developement is popular with both locals and visitors. The bandstand has gone and the statue of Flora is now at Northwood House. The ornamental Fountain remains.

There are about a dozen coaches bringing day trippers to Cowes.
This view shows the seaward side of Cowes High St.
Also visible is a rather cluttered boatyard. Formerly William Whites. then Groves & Gutteridge and Freddie Dinnis’ yard. Now Cowes Yacht Haven.
Moving down river from the previous image this pre-war view shows Lallows yard and the large Saunders Roe building on the seaward side of Medina Rd. The river can be seen heading down from Newport.
Looking in the opposite direction with Medina Rd, Saunders Roe (the large building on the right) and part of White’s shipyard plus the terraced houses capture the industrial nature of this part of Cowes.
A pre war photo captures some interesting vessels moored off Marvins yard plus a ship in the still existing dry dock.

This 1930s view shows Northwood Cemetery in the foreground with Newport Rd and Mill Hill Rd separated by fields. The next view shows post war development,
The fields have gone replaced by the 1950s council built estate. Now a mix of privatly owned and rented properties it is home for many locals.
The Kingston Arms can be seen in the foreground.
A valuable green space well used by many. Cowes Secondary School grounds are visible in the background. Cowes Enterprise college has been built since this photo.
Many Cowes children were educated here, now no more with the new Cowes Enterprise College the local High School.
For a short period the car ferry did stop a Fountain Quay where cars could be loaded via side doors.
